I have severe head aches, my entire body aches and my belly gets big on occasions like I'm pregnant. What's safe to take that won't hurt worse the next day and make me sick
That's bs. Tramadol for pain and ask for Celebrex also for your joints . I've been fighting this for yrs . I just finished the Incevek. Program. And doing well . Don't let him tell you other wise . I was taken care of thru one of our largest university hospitals with world known liver specialist . And they didn't have any problem giving me these. Meds. So tell him you want it .
As a preface to my response to you let me please say you should always consult with your MD and your pharmacist regarding what medications/supplements you are taking even if it seems insignificant. Sometimes the pharmacist will catch interactions or have alternate suggestions your MD may not be aware of. With that being said I agree with the answer to get a second opinion if you feel your MD is not caring for you appropriately. It is also true that a sick liver cannot metabolize medications well and often times some of the meds will "hang out" in your liver too long which could mean you just need the dose adjusted to meet you and your liver's needs. I used to abuse Narcotics even when I knew my liver was sick and I felt fine maybe for a day or so but then I would be knocked out for 3-4..it was like it all kicked it in at once and put me out. I could not wake up no matter how hard I tried.
I do not know your doctor personally but I know what I have experienced with doctors in the past. Whether it is right or wrong, bad or good, some doctors just can't seem to help themselves when judging patients. If a doctor thinks you are a drug seeker whether you are or not-you are going to be treated as one. I know its not fair but its true. Remember this` communication with your doctor and his staff is critical. I do not recommend having a bad attitude with them but I suggest you speak openly and honestly about your concerns. Remain calm and cooperative(catching fly with honey) They work for the insurance companies and they work for you.. they get paid.. You would not order food, pay for it and then walk out without eating would you? As far as your pain. I had chronic stomach pain for years and blamed it on my liver. I had over 20 vials of blood drawn on me the very first office visit with my doctor and I do not even have health insurance- just a doc who cares and knows what he is doing. He was able to find my blood was too thick and as a result of those baseline labs, I was started on a blood thinner to relieve my stomach pain. It works beyond belief. I use a heating pad on my abdomen and or rotate a heating blanket around my joints bc they hurt most of the time. For the headaches, best to stay away from noise and light and place a frozen bag of veggies around your neck and on your forehead whenever you can. I have also been told that drinking 2 gallons of water a day will control the headaches well.( that is if you are not on fluid restrictions and are currently on treatment) I carry a jug trying to hydrate ahead of time. Take note of your diet, find one good for a sick liver and avoid salt. It adds to the bloating. I take Glucosamine/Chondroitin, for my joints, women's mult-vitamin-vitamin C and all of the B's daily. I also take Milk Thistle to help control liver inflammation. Try to get up and do "as if" daily. One of the things I used to tell patients when I was an R.N, was for every one day you stay in bed it takes 2 days to recover. I learned it at sometime during my Nursing but I can't give you the source bc I don't remember it. (thank you liver for the brain fog lol) I hope this helps. Please keep focused on the prize-your life- and know you are not alone. Best wishes.
It sounds fishy to me. My Neurologist told me that I could not see any other neurologist without his referral. Let me put it to you this way he took my drivers license away three times for seizures in four years. That was a lot of paper work for me, heartbreaking for my family/friends/collegues, and he kept trying to titrate me off my "Rx cocktail" even though I was improving, which always ended up in another seizure and right back in the emergency department. Additionally he actually said to me that he would "let" me stay on a prescription medication that another a specialist gave to me after extensive testing procedures. I asked my specialist about it and he said that he can tell me his thoughts about it and then let me sign off that I understood his personal professional opinion. I decided to go to another Neurologist any way and she told me that I could switch doctors without his referral.
Your current doctor might possibly be right but if I were you I would seek a second opinion. It sounds like you are in terrible pain and it also sounds like you can't possibly live a normal life in that condition. It's your health dear, keep trying to heal you body. I hope you feel better soon. Kira
