Can he? Well, he's your Dr and if this is the same dr prescribing both meds I guess it's a matter of trusting or changing. By saying "use" clonazepam you mean from another source/Dr then maybe there is a risk of some sort. Hope this helpks.
My pdoc used to prescribe both temazepam 15 mg for poor sleep to take at bedtime as needed also, clonazepam 0.5 mg one tab twice daily. One in the morning and one at night he told me. Often I took the one at night at the same time as the Restoril. I never suffered any ill effects.
