I am severely constipated due to a long term use of opiate narcotics. So bad that normal laxatives did not work and only caused lost of pain! I am so afraid of taking this for relief because other types of laxatives such as exlax and senokot caused SEVERE cramping and gas, again with minimal relief. What was your experience as far as gas and cramping went?
Do you have stomach cramps with mag citrate for constipation?

I did forget to mention, I am also diabedic and have high blood pressure which are both controlled by medication. I know that mag citriate isn't recommended for those w/HTN but I am at a loss of what else to try. My stomach is so distended and when I "go", I have so much trouble. I usually only "go" maybe once or twice a week as it is but since I have been on opiates regularly, it is even less than that and I suffer w/severe constipation. I have tried many over the counter remedies; laxatives, fiber, probiotics and even enemas, but nothing really seems to help. I thought if maybe I could get myself cleaned out real good, I could kinda "start from scratch" and try to get things going on a normal schedule again. I have just had such horribly painful gas and cramping with laxatives that I just don't know if I can handle the pain from something as drastic as mag citrate, or anything else that would be strong enough to clean me all out. Sorry for the graphic nature, but with the subject matter, it is kinda hard to avoid.
i have the same problem due to opiate use. And yes mag citrate will cause bad cramping sometimes with no results. i have found a miracle drug though. It is called lactulose and it is a prescription laxative. i take 2tbsp twice a day and it causes no cramping and I go almost everyday. and I am someone that a colonoscopy prep did not work on. The only thing is if you are diabetic it is not good to take bc it does have sugar in it. Good luck.

Hello all chronic constipation suffereres. I 2 am on Tramadol 200mg SRx 2 codien phosphate x30mg X upto 8 per day, (just desided to stop taking them) +generic Panadien Forte 500/30mg + Norspan patch 20mg + several 5mg Valium a couple of times a day + Metoprolol+ Fruzemide +Cymbalta 60 and 30mg + Lipator + somac + Panamax for headache, minax and have recently removed Coversyl 5mg tabs from my otherwise daily intake. this has been going on 10 years now for most of them. Prior to this I was on 160mg Morphien X 2. So believe you me I know what you are going thru. I used to feel as a male like I was trying to give birth to something and was sure many times I was actually going to die on the loo, what an undignified way to go. and at times I wish that I would die because the pain was so great. I would maybe go to the toilet twice in a fortnight. How ever heres the good bit.
In Perth Western Australia I buy Slim Tea and drink that about once a day ( if you make it too strong it wil give you cramps believe me) and I use once every day or so "GenRx Lactulose" made by Apotex Pty Ltd, North Ryde NSW, 2113. Another good stool softener and pusher is called "Normacol" wich is also available here.DON,T FORGET CHECK WITH YOUR DR BEFORE USEING ANY OF THESE PRODUCTS.
