... times a day for breakt pain
Probably not... dropping from 50 mcg (micrograms, not milligrams) to 25 mcg. is not that much. And you are on a relatively high dose of dilaudid for bt pain. You would not go into withdrawl unless you dropped drastically from your dilaudid. Your receptor sites are still adequately occupied. If you do plan to drop your dilaudid please check with your doctor re: going through withdrawal as he/she will help you with this.
I failed to ask you... are you experiencing any withdrawal pains currently?
If so, DO contact your doctor who prescribed them for you. Withdrawal is NOT fun. You cannot die from withdrawal from opiates but you may feel like dying as the withdrawal is awful... so in all matters such as this DO check with your physician who prescribed the medication. Even though I am giving you an educated answer I am NOT your physician... so do that and let me know how you are doing... be well and God Bless...
I was on fentanyl patches for about 3 years they started me on 25mcg then they tried to increase it to 50mcg/hr I could not hardly function, My B/P dropped and my heart rate dropped (I took it for pain associated with the Polio I had several years ago, they had to discontinue it they decided because my body mass index was low (and I am thin) that I most likely didn't have the body fat to absorb the medicine and thats what caused me problems! I would say from what experience that I had that dropping the dose (like pup said) since you are on Dilaudid for Chronic pain breakthrough it should also give you enough opiate coverage until you should not notice the drop, One thing as she said keep in touch with your doc's and also be assured that everything is going to be fine, over the course of time they have made many changes in my chronic pain medicines and most of the time things will work out fine. You hang in there and keep us posted!
