Hi Oceangirl61, Be careful with the Seroquel. I was going through a major depression and was given Seroquel. I ended up having a psychoatic episode and was hospitalised for 6 months before they found the proper meds to help me. I'm not saying it's not for you, just keep a close eye on your side effects. On your other question, do people that are bipolar think they only are depressed? When I went in the hospital with Major depression the meds they gave me were not working so now I'm on Lithium and Manerix. The lithium is mostly for bipolars so the docs thought I might be. Alot of bipolars have bee depressed at one time or another. Everyone with bipolar has his/her story that they can share with you. Hope this helps you. Take care. smileyhappy
Hi Oceangirl. I have battled depression all my life (I'm 43). Recently after a bad bout of depression my dc gave me Abilify and it has been working for me also along with Lexapro and some others but to answer your question-yes I do think that.
Do you think u may be bipolar? What are your symptoms? My mom was clearly bipolar but with me my manic times are subtle.
Hope this helps cathleen
In response to"do bipolar people think they only have depression"
Bipolar disorder affects approximately 5.7 million American adults, or about 2.6 percent of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year. Bipolar disorder is characterized by periods of excitability (mania) alternating with periods of depression. The "mood swings" between mania and depression can be very abrupt. Bipolar disorder is also known as manic depression or bipolar affective disorder.
My husband has had this disease all his life. Has tried to kill himself starting at the age of 16 (he's is now 60). He was never properly diagnosed until his last try to kill himself in 2000, & they don't know how he lived. He took every heart med he had, over 50 1mg of xanax, 85 7.5 Vicodin & a lot more I don't like remembering. He was postering in the ICU (meaning he should have died). At any rate he finally got the right Physciatrist who put him on Zoloft 100 mg a day. He's a completely changed person. He still has some depression, but physically he has every right to it. Before the Zoloft he did the manic & then the depression thing. Almost every three months. Hope this answered the first part of your question. Oh, & now the doc has prescribed Xanax AGAIN for his anxiety. Our Primary care doctor will not prescribe anything that he can overdose on now. He goes to a pain clinic for his Methadone. I should add that he didn't realize that he was bipolar until the last time. Just thought he was depressed because of his health issues.
I have a very good friend who lives in Nashville, Tn I lived in Indiana I go one year and visit with them and the next year they come here, it was a very difficult situation finding the medications that worked for him, (he was hospitalzed for 4 month) the medicines they had him on at home gave him such horrible side effects until he made the choice to go off them thats when he got into big trouble, it took a lengthy hospitalization, a lot of work and understanding before he got well enough to come home and not only that but to be able to return to work, you are right I think everyone with this has a story to tell, I wish you the very best of luck
