I started taking disulfiram for the first time this morning. And ended up buying new shampoo, facewash, ect. I can't believe how many things contain some form of alcohol ingredient. I'm wondering now if I can use bleach products with out a reaction or even swim in a pool with chlorine while taking this medication. Any help to my questions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
I have taken antabuse 4 several years on and off. I've never heard of any interaction with bleach or any type of chlorine or chemicals you would find in a pool. Believe me from experience though, this drug has a very long half-life and stays in your system for some time. I think it is a smart move that you replaced any items that contain any type of alcohol in any amount. It's amazing how many products that we use on a daily basis that contain alcohol. Believe me it's not worth it learning the hard way as I did. I don't know your circumstances, but it only works if you take it and I myself did not have the discipline to do so. I found that a good support group worked much better for me. But that's just me. Best of luck here in your journey. God bless.
Yes, no problem with Bleach or Chlorine
Hello first of all good luck with your treatment, my name is russell hughes and we use an implant of disulifiram that lasts 12 months for people who find it hard to stick to oral tablets. As for bleach products you can use them. All you have to do us keep away from alcohol based products mouth wash etc. You can even use alcohol in cooking as long as the alcohol is cooked out, before eating. If I can be of any more help please don't hesitate in contacting me. Kind regards
