... understand how the methadone works.So my question is how can you still take oxycontin if the methadone is suppose to take away the craving and be a blocker?
this is just my understanding I think methadone is to support you through the withdrawl phase of narcotics but I also believe it is also used in some people for Chronic pain I hope I have been of some help Suboxone is a drug in which you are not suppose to use any narcotic medications it is to remove the opiates from the system again I hope I have helped in some way
Methadone simply blocks the opiate receptors that narcotic medications bind to, thus limiting the euphoric effect a drug such as oxy would have on a person and requiring more of it to get the same sensation to the the "high" feeling without the methadone. Being on methadone allows these opiate receptors to be binded to and thus the craving that an addict would otherwise have is limited for other opiate substances. That person can still take an opiate like oxy and get a euphoric feeling, but not as much of one as if he wasn't already on the methadone.
