I have a blood cancer called, "Large Granular Lymphocyte Luekemia," which makes my body hurt often, due to lack of oxygen and red blood in my body. I also have Lumbar Facet Disease in my lower back. My pain doctor has me on 900 mg once a day of Gabapentin (Neuronin) for the back pain, Exalgo Extended Release 8mg twice a day and Hydromorphone 4 to 8 mg every 6 to 8 hours for breakthrough pain (can take up to 8 of the 4 mg pills). I am not getting much relief from the Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) anymore and am wondering if I have developed a tolerance. If I have, what is a good medicine to take the place of the Dilaudid and actually work? Percoset 15mg doesn't seem to help at all! I was told it was the strongest medicine available. I don't want to be a druggie. :(
How does Dilaudid 8mg compare to Percoset 15mg?

First of all if you are taking med for pain no matter how much you need for it you're not a druggie. I believe the problem is with your long acting med. If you need allot of breakthru meds the long acting med isn't doing it. A change to something like a fentanyl patch could be what you need. Comparing dilaudid to percocet is like comparing a bomberto a bb gun.

I've been taking Dilaudid 8mg for over a year now and my insurance only covers the generic. Usually?
