... panic disorders when faced with the loss of therapeutic anti-anxiety medication. I start panicking when I no longer have any refills left on my ativan, even if I still have half my prescription left
I feel the same way with my pain meds. I dont get refills but I still feel a little panicky when my bottle gets low even though I know I will get a refill I still worry that something may happen and I will be without my medications. It seems like my pain gets worse towards the end of the month too and I'm sure it is just psychological.
Actually what you describe is one facet of anxiety syndrome. Anxiety has so many dynamics and each of us have our own method of being chased by it. The language in our head says we need control and the obvious direction is to be sure you have enough medication and don't run out. It is like the dream many have of going to class, having a difficult time finding it and then learning that it is the final exam. Worry portrays itself in as many ways as we have worries.
I was taught by a leading therapist in anxiety disorders to remember to tell oneself, "it is only anxiety happening. Everything is fine." I will look up the book he highly recommends. You may gain some insight for your response. Will add as a comment. Stay strong. Karen
