My general practitioner prescribed 20 mg Pravastatin daily. A couple of years later a Cardiologist prescribe 20 mg Simvastatin daily and told me to stop the Pravastin, which I did. According to a drug dictionary they are the same drug, just different manufacturer. Friends that are taking other Statin drugs tell me that Simvastin is worse for my liver and muscles and that it will effect my memory. I am age 75.
They are not the same yes they are both statins but simvastatin 40mg is equal to pravastatin 80mg . All statins have the same side effects of potential and everyone reacts differently to each statin. You need to decide whether you're going to trust your family practitioner more than your cardiologist
