Oxycontin is a time release or long acting form of oxycodone. Oxycontin is oxycodone but not all oxycodone is Oxycontin. Oxycodone is available in immediate release forms and also in combination with acetaminophen as well as the long acting Oxycontin. Since they changed the formula of Oxycontin to the newer tamper resistant form, there are no longer any long acting generics.
