What is the difference in buspar & xanax? Why would a physician prescribe both at one time?

They aren't even related. Buspar is not a benzo, and is to prevent anxiety, you take it every day. Xanax is a benzo and can be taken as needed once you feel anxiety coming on.
Kaismama has the most of it, I take this combination of drugs and the day to day anxiety is taken care of by the buspar but every so often I get anxiety that buspar won't handle and that is when I take the benzodiazepine which takes care of it. Doing it this way keeps me safe from using the benzodiazepines to often and becoming addicted to them.
