What is the strength difference between the two? Which is better for muscle spasms?
Sorry, don't know the difference in strength between the two. However, I have all-over body muscle spasms and have taken both meds. Cyclobenzaprine just made me totally loopy even when I took it at night; it lasted all the next day without taking any more pills. No way could I take it during the day. Obviously, it did not address my spasms.
I am currently on the Tizanidine. It helps with the small spasms, reduces the number of the major spasms, and does not make me sleepy at all. I take it 3x day. But when a big spasm attacks, one that will last for a couple days straight, it does no help at all (neither did the cyclobenzaprine, though).
A different drug, methocarbamol (Robaxin), was the absolutely best; almost no spasms at all, and I actually could sleep all night through. Unfortunately, there seems to be a war against it right now. My insurance will no longer pay for it, and other agencies are saying it is not a safe drug. It has been used for years and years and works! These newer drugs just aren't the same. Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine) is not a new drug, but still the chosen drug for muscle spasms by docs. I had a doc tell me the way it works is to relax the person (put them to sleep practically!) and so the muscles relax. Don't know if this is really true, never checked it out. Every person reacts to meds differently, but I hope this helps some. Bunny
