- xanax, anxiety, buspirone
xanex is a benzo, it can be addicting and it can be taken as needed to treat anxiety. Buspirone is a totally different anxiety medication that is taken on a regular basis to prevent anxiety. It cannot be used as needed to treat anxiety and has no potential for addiction.
Buspirone and Xanax are not in the same class of drugs; however, they both treat anxiety. Xanax is a benzodiazepine, and benzos are addicting whereas buspirone is not.
buspar usually takes a few weeks to kick in... like antidepressants It is used often for generalized anxiety disorder and ptsd does not kick in right away for panic the way Xanax does as others have noted
