What is the difference between an Anxiety attack & an Panic attack? I have never known but my guess is that a Panic attack is a severe case of an Anxiety attack. Anyway, I'm on XANAX XR & regular XANAX for my attacks which are now few & far between. I feel silly being treated for an infliction I don't fully comprehend. Thanks, "confused" - vgunderson1

Hello Vgunders: After 40 years of having and studying anxiety and panic attacks I can tell you that the confusion is due to the medical community not defining the difference. In short you are correct, a Panic attack is the heightened anxiety reaching a point of full panic. Much like filling a glass with water until the glass finally overflows. In terms of understanding and feeling silly, don't. We all felt that way and still do sometimes. Read, study, research treatment options and find health professionals who deal with anxiety and panic attacks. Knowledge is a very powerful way to take your life back and determine how YOU want to deal with this problem.
