Due to our insurance company, my husband had to get pre-auth for his Androgel. In the mean time his urologist gave him samples of Axiron. Historically, Androgel has caused a very low sperm count and even a zero count. He has been using Axiron for 3-4 weeks now, after being off the androgel for a few days. During this time, I have managed to get pregnant. How is this even possible? He has been told in the past it could take 6 months to begin making sperm again after discontinuing TRT. Needless to say we are shocked, as this wasn't exactly in our plans.
I'm not finding any percentages, but any high dose testosterone can cause decreased sperm count. The point being, its a possibility, not a foregone conclusion. It only takes one sperm to get pregnant.
Testosterone reduces or eliminates sperm count when used as a supplement. In order to grow my sperm count for trying to have kids, I was prescribed HCG. HCG has action similar to the hormone that stimulates testosterone production as well as sperm production. By using this, along with IVF, my wife got pregnant. We now are blessed with two teenage kids as a result.
