- ventolin, ventolin hfa
IS VENTOLIN without the HFA the same as VENTOLIN HFA
I'm pretty sure the HFA refers to the device used to deliver the medication. It has a dose counter on it so you can be sure how much medication you have left/don't run out. Ventolin & Ventolin HFA are both alternative names for the active ingredient Albuterol
Delilah is correct. They are both albuterol and the hfa is referring to the delivery device. I don't know why drug companies have to be so confusing with med names, but they are sometimes.
HFA is the gas that delivers the medication. They had to change it because the old propellant had chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) as the propellant which are ruining the ozone layer in the atmosphere-the new HFA's dont do this. Otherwise, it is the same exact medication.
