What is the differance between metformin and metformin extended release?

Bonnie; What it is and you should always look at what your doctor gives you so they don't change unless they really mean to. But REGULAR Metformin you have to take several times a day in most cases. and the Metformin extended You normally don't have to take as many and it works better of keeping your blood level at the same point what they mean by Extended is the way it is released slowly in your system so you keep a steady blood level until the next pill is due. hope that helps Chuck1957
