I see Garcinia Cambogia is all the buzz in Hollywood. Not sure if it's just all hype or if it really is effective??? However, I am taking Contrave so just wondered if it would be safe to take together as I try to lose 25-30 lbs to get to my healthy weight.
Yes Garcinia cambogia is all the buzz in Hollywood!
Unfortunately, claims by companies selling Garcinia Cambogia (GC) for weight loss seem to be based on either animal studies or laboratory investigations into the effects of hydroxycitric acid (HCA) the main active ingredient of GC. While it is true that in a laboratory dish HCA does inhibit an enzyme called citrate lyase, interfering with fat metabolism, it is a big leap to then say that this translates to weight loss in humans. In actual fact, the majority of human trials investigating the efficacy of GC for both body weight and fat loss have found no significant effects for the supplement.
It is also important to realise that Garcinia cambogia is classified as a dietary supplement in the United States . This means it is regulated as a food product and has not been subjected to the same safety or efficacy requirements as medicines. As a result data about potential drug interactions, including Contrave, is very limited or non-existent.
You should talk with your doctor before taking Garcinia cambogia.
