I know nothing about beta blockers except what they do. Diazepam has a reasonable half life and will remain effective for years IF you take them only as required rather than habitually daily. With continued daily use you will notice that tolerance builds up relatively quickly.
Try to remember that the normal human state is to feel anxiety at times when appropriate. Taking a pill to eliminate all anxiety, all the time just isn't healthy in my opinion. Discuss the "as needed" idea with your doctor. As an example a pack of 50 x 5mg can last me anywhere from one month (allowed) to 3-4 months. I also have the advantage of no withdrawal symptoms with sudden discontinuation.
This is probably not going to get much approval from members here but it makes my Doctor very happy and inclined to listen to and trust me.

Hi, radox; I am with Steve, for the most part, Taken just on as needed Valium seldom burns out on you and you well know and thank God you have it when you have a bad anxiety attack. But many doctors prescribe the newer Benzo's these days And they work pretty much the same way it depends on you and your doctor. Are you taking anything now like an antidepressant which helps a lot with the anxiety also? But as far as your question on Beta blockers I have been on them for over 25 years and they make the benzo work even better for me the one I take is Inderal la 80mg and bumped into it by accident started it for migraine prevention and we found out it helped my anxiety a lot more than the Migraine prevention.Well worth a try But it is really up to a doctor that can trust you with whatever benzodiazepine they decide to give you. Anything is better than this hell we live in at times. Chuck1957
