I was diagnosed with IIH November 28th this year, 2017. I was getting blurred and double vision before I was diagnosed. I started taking Diamox. I have been on it for 4 days now and still seeing double. I am taking 1000mg a day and in 2 more days I'll be taking 1500mg a day. Will this blurred/double vision go away if I continue taking the Diamox or will it just get worse?
I hope by now you have found an answer. IIH itself causes the vision issues and the Diamox is supposed to relieve the pressure and the vision symptoms. However, they have to work you up to the most effective dose for your case. That make time to do safely. If the vision is getting worse, you may consider doing a Lumbar Puncture to relieve the pressure immediately and use the diamox to keep it off. The lumbar puncture isn’t that bad if done with interventional radiology or x-ray fluoroscopy. I just had it done and in the ER it was awful and he wasn’t able to get it. And then the next day they used the fluoroscopy and got in and out without me feeling a thing except for the numbing thing. But if you are creating that much fluid that fast it may be time to consider a shunt. I have seen some done in the lumbar spine instead of the brain so that’s a little bit of improvement. But your case seems severe and you may need to be aggressive to avoid going blind.
