... with this condition. However, I am in no pain from the nerves; instead I suffer from neuropathic itch. At times it is unbearable because the itch covers my entire body every single day especially my face and back. While gabapentin 300mg helps somewhat, it is not a cure. IF there is anybody out here who is suffering like me, please let me know IF there is anything else I can do? I'm tired of this. Times: 24 hours a day, 7days a week. What: Constant itching, burning and pinching sensation but no nerve pain. Meds: gabapentin 300mg three x a day.
My heart goes out to you. I had eczema for 6 months and it drove me nuts! How’s your diet? I found a Whole Foods plant based diet helped my neuropathy and eczema along with the elimination of most refined sugar. How’s your weight? Are you exercising and getting enough sleep? Prayer and meditation helps too. I got off all meds and feel better but it’s not an overnight correction. It has taken me 2 years to get better. It’s definitely a struggle but you can do it!
Hi GabberGirl. I sympathize with you! Although; for me the itching didn’t start until after starting the medication. I heard that it could be the meds that was causing the itching; so I decided to start tapering. There were many other horrible side effects for me; but my face was itching so bad that it almost drove me crazy. I am almost tapered off now and the itching is almost gone. There are a few things that might help you if you would like to try them. Epsom salt baths always helped me. Also unrefined coconut oil. I have heard that some people use EUCERIN skin calming cream though I’ve never tried it myself. I wish you the best and take care
Hi There -
I have suffered from SFN for about 6 years - I too have the pinching “buzzin” symptoms. It drives me absolutely mad. I have trouble sleeping- At first they started in just my feet but now it is all over especially my hands and trunk. I am on gabapentin 300 x3 a day but sometimes add an additional 100. I find if I take a shower with dr. Teals Lavender shower gel that sometimes helps - also ceraVe cream helps a bit. Wish there was something else out there - I am unwilling to try the other drugs because I have a very sensitive liver and the side effects are terrible, my naturopath suggested taking a B complex so I now just started that we will have to see.
hi, GabberGirl, I've been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy for maybe 7+ yrs now and have had painful neuropathy and most of my body is numb - i even have internal numbness. i've been having the itching for some months now - like you've described - it's so awful :(
i'm responding mostly because a friend from a support group i'm in has had it for a few years now - he isn't able to take any medications due to kidney disease - so his isn't caused by that. for some reason(s), it is going away for him just recently. he thinks maybe because he has found ways to accept it?? he uses meditation techniques a lot and self hynosis too.
i like the suggestions of the others and am going to use them to help myself as well.
i cannot tolerate gabapentin, but everything else, i'll try : )
here's to hoping the best for us all xxx
