What questions should I ask the doctor. And what medications give the worst side effects.will the doctor be able to tell me how long I have had it and I have a pain in the liver area that comes and goes but the last month or so they have been more frequent and painful. Is that a symptom of liver damage?
Just been diagnosed with hep c my first visit in 2 days.what should I expect?

I have had HepC for many years. They will test your blood for elevated liver enzymes. The Dr. Will feel of your liver. After your blood work comes back, they may want to do a liver biopsy. It sounds scary, but it isn't bad. That is where they can tell about how long you may have had it,that and your history. They can also get an idea of how much scar tissue you have, if any. I haven't taken any of the meds. Good Luck!
I have known about my Hep C for 20 yrs..Being a former addict and alcoholic, I
didn't care about myself or my health..Well, I quit drugs (illegal) about 7 yrs ago,
and my beer drinking over 2 years ago, which was Hard. I have never had a biopsy'
but I have had ultrasounds and MRI's. I refuse the treatment, but my PCP keeps a
close eye on my liver enzymes, which have definately gone down. I am praying for
a better treatment plan to be developed. My depression is too bad to chance it...
Hi Ogdencriss -- I would make a list of what you feel you would like to know, the doctor should be able to provide answers. I don't think there's any right or wrong questions.. It's all in what you would like to know. The doctor will be able to give you the geno type and approx length of time you have had the virus. As for meds, it's hard to say.. There are so many new meds coming out and it also depends on the geno type of the virus as to what they would use.
As a person who has completed two rounds of meds but finally cleared the virus... Don't hesitate on reading up on the new meds and make sure you see a doctor, then you can make a good decision and how you want to proceed..
Best Regards..
an update to my question . My viral load is 16 million and have Hep c genotype 2b,had ultrasound yesterday, Now waiting for my second visit to the doctors, I have some minor swelling and a dull pain in the liver area and constantly fatigued, Not sure of what treatment they will do? can I request a certain treatment?

Hi Ogdencriss -- I believe the doctor will choose the treatment according to the geno type. Not to worry, from what I read, the new meds do not have as many side affects and are given for less time than before. As I might of said before, I had the virus for over 40 years and finished treatment last year. I'm still virus free and it's been over 7 months now.. I'm considered cured..
