Any hints, ideas, etc would be most welcome; what has helped and what has not helped. Thank you
The first thing the dr should do is refer you to a speech therapist so she can work on the dysphagia and tell you what to do. A barium swallow would be done too. How do you do with things like ice cream? You may need to stay with a soft diet until such time as this is done. Be very careful with liquids. There is a product called thick it that thickens fluids if you have trouble with liquids. Its tasteless and doesn't make goo like Metamucil dose.
When you swallow, be sure your head is level, not tilted back. Even tilted forward a bit helps prevent choking.
If you're eating solids, be sure you chew it very carefully before swallowing
Do not talk and laugh while eating. It makes it easy to choke.
I'm trying to think of all the eating tips I learned over a 50 yr career, lol... If I think of something else I'll be back, lolol
