... planning on finaly going to a dr. with this issue. Im just concerned about what meds they will prescribe. Any1 know what they will prescribe me?
Hello dingbat. You are doing a good and powerful healing for yourself. There is much to learn with the therapist and exciting changes for you ahead. The good changes. Anxiety is controllable and with practice you can be reduced to peace and control of your fears.
Medication depends upon the person. Some people rely upon it and don't seek therapists. Their results are poor. Those who work with a behavioral therapist do extremely well. Medication is used as a support while you retrain your mind not to get excited. It is very effective.
Because the therapist will do a thorough analysis of you upon intake, any medications suggested will be prescribed through a physician. But you may not receive any medication depending upon what you are willing to do with the therapist. There are medications for the underlying depression which generates anxiety and perhaps medications if there are panic attacks.
When you meet with the therapist, be sure this is someone whom you feel good about, listens to you and has good suggestions. If you don't like the therapist, you won't do your work and become better.
Write again after the meeting with questions about medication should you receive something. The details can then be discussed. Remember it is your choice, ask lots of questions about side effects, what to expect, risks. Also ask about goals, methods to get there, and so forth. Write these things down so you don't get distracted during the session like I do when I don't write things down. Lol.
Good luck. I am very happy that you are taking charge. You will feel so much better and so many doors will open for you. Karen
