I was diagnosed with Diabetes in 2004, since then I have been taking mostly Metformin 500 daily with various other medications. But in the year 2008 my sugar level shot up to 20 mmol/l and some time above and also my creatinine was 1.8. My Doctor Prescribed me Amaryl 2mg and stopped other diabetic medicines. latter he decreased the Dose to 1mg daily once, which I am continuing.
Hello. I have medication induced diabetes because of high dose prednisone and support meds. Am allergic to the pills. So I use insulin.
Just was at the doc yesterday. My creatinine was up yesterday. It varies over time, I have monthly and two week draws depending on how my actual disease is progressing. She said that she watches the creatinine over time. Right now it is a bit lower. We have not done anything about it because any more meds would cause even more trouble.
The GFR depends upon you race, sex, dehydration, and scale your lab uses. Mine is never right. We don't concern ourselves. It is a composite test of results. This also varies over time. I wouldn't get too excited over these. As long as you have confidence in your doctor, then go with the doc. You are seeing an endocrinologist or a general practitioner? If not an Endo, get in to see one. That will help.
You can go to the Mayo clinic site and they define these tests and what they mean if you would like more info. also plenty of other sites out there.
Does any of that help?
