Take his medicine the dr orders, watch his diet, low carbs always, get exercise and plenty of water. Check his blood sugar at least twice a day. Keep it tightly controlled. Any time your blood sugar is over 200 for 5 min it can do cell damage to your body. If he wants to keep his legs, kidneys, eyes and heart, he'll do what I say. His blood sugar should always be around 70-100
Wow - that's high! Did his doctor prescribe some visits with a Dietician? With Medicare as my insurance, I got a full day class about Diabetes and several one-on-one visits with a Dietician. I learned SO much! Your brother is in serious trouble - please convince him to take action NOW to deal with his diabetes. Like others have said, with levels that high, his pancreas is no longer working. People live full, good lives, with some medical problems, with Type 1 Diabetes (which he ln effect has, since his pancreas is shot). Yes, he is young, but many are diagnosed as children. I have a friend who is 61, and does have medical crises a lot, but has a decent life too. Regards - EJ23
