all my siblings but my mom, and two of my younger four siblings have it
My father was a type 2 diabetic. I got gestational diabetes that never went away. My 2 children were gaining a lot of weight and they were very active. My 15 year old got up to 195 lbs. They kept checking their A1C levels and said they were fine. I took them to a specialist and she drew blood and tested their actual INSULIN levels. They were triple the amount it was suppose to be! She said if I had not kept being persistant, they would have become diabetic eventually.(it took a year to get these kids help!) So an A1C is not always they way to catch diabetes until your glucose levels are high. The signs I did notice were discoloration of skin(light to medium dark) around the back of the neck, armpits and groin area. On the neck, it kind of looked wrinkled, reminded me of rope. a few small skin tags under the armpits. And those hard white bumps(a few) around their eyes or top of cheeks on face.
I forgot the medical term for these.Hunger even though they had eaten about an hour before. Craved sweets! a little tiredness. Unexplained weight gain for no reason. They did not show the signs most people look for... thirst and frequent urination. I thought the gestational diabetes had went away after my last pregnancy. After I started having a lot of problems with my teeth that used to be perfect, I kept getting cavities and infections. I was diabetic the whole time and did not know. My son was already 2 years old. I did the glucose tolerance test and my fasting glucose was 189.Ater I drank the orange drink, 2 hours later it was 338. I later found out that diabetics actually have these problems, because of our saliva. It makes the plaque on your teeth harder to get off. weird, but that was what I was told by the doctor. I believe it can be a hereditary trait. That is my personal opinion. So if you have concerns I would a check up and ask them to draw your blood and have your insulin levels checked. They could also run a full panel, thyroid etc. and then you will know for sure if it is really bothering you. It couldn't hurt and it would ease your concerns. I hoped this helped. Good luck and I wish you the best!
