I don't have diabetes but the my doctor prescribed metformin to me to control my prediabetes and hormine level and possible help with weight loss what effect will ortho tri-cyclen have on me?
I am not a doctor but I don't think metformin will effect your ortho tri-cyclen overly much if you are using the ortho as a way to regulate your cycle. It is more the other way around, by adding metformin you may have a more difficult time controlling your blood sugars. I am assuming that your blood sugar levels are between 100 - 150 to be considered a pre-diabetic. If this is true I would be more concerned that the metformin will drop your blood sugars and produce symptoms of hypoglycemia. Please keep a close eye on your blood sugars and never skip a meal or snack. Please carry hard candies with you if you start to experience hypoglycemia... weakness, confusion, dizziness, nausea and sweating. As far as ortho goes for birth control I am not sure how this is effected, I have never heard that it makes the pill less effective in preventing pregnancy. Hope this helps.
