Does it make sense for doctor to raise to 225? I don’t usually do well with high doses . Also would like people’s opinions on Pristiq, as that has been mentioned?
While both venlafaxine (Effexor) and desvenlafaxine (Pristiq) are structurally similar serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) and excellent for the treatment of MDD, the latter (Pristiq) is not indicated for use in generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) or the various phobias. That being said, since you're already taking a benzodiazepine, ie, Klonopin and Effexor, I would agree with your doctor on the next step being titration of the Effexor to a higher dose. As for your concern on not doing well at higher doses, unlike many drugs, Effexor is quite tolerable at higher doses. Also, I have found that the long-acting format, Effexor XR, works better in sensitive patients taking larger doses because of its slow, continuous release throughout the day keeping the blood-plasma level steady.
Pristiq came out when- Effexor XR lost their patent. It promises less side effects than, Effexor and I found that to be true. Pristiq at 75mg was more tolerable than, Effexor XR at 75mg. However, I did do better on regular Effexor 75mg twice a day than, time released. It doesn’t hurt to try a different route.
I hope your anxiety is better now.
Sorry, I haven’t been up to date and distant.
I am feeling a little better now.
Keep your head up
