... and painful gas pain? I have been up for hours in discomfort. Not sure what caused this except for the increase in folic acid.

I have been eating healthy and had a salad for lunch not out of the ordinary for me. Late afternoon I had some canteloupe. Didn't have dinner because I started with painful upper abdomen in between my upper ribs and navel.Upper stomach hard and distended and painful gas type pains. Didn't consider it might be from my upped dosage of folic acid until I read the side effects. I am only on 2 mg. Just took some expired gasx that somehow escaped the wrath of my spring cleaning. Its going to be a long night. Wondering if it was the salad the folic acid or the fact that I did a little stint on my exercise bike. Did I aggravate my hiatal hernia? Would 2 mg cause this kind of abdominal stress? I see others who take so much more folic acid. Afraid to take the 2 mg tomorrow. What should I be taking to avoid this from happening ? Will call dr office tomorrow.
Are you taking Methotrexate? If so, that might be causing all the stomach problems. I had horrible gastro problems while on it, and had to stop!
Hi. I agree that you need to talk with the doctor. I was put on omeprazole and then when that ran its course of five years I was switched to rantinidine. Although these can be OTC and I watched for adds to buy it at half price, once I had prescription insurance, it was much less expensive taking it that way.
Folic acid is a vitamin so don't let the name fool you. It doesn't tend to cause an acid stomach. Methotrexate and prednisone do that. Be sure you take them with food every time. K
I wonder why your Rheumy didn't have you on the folic acid the whole time with the methotrexate? I literally would have to sit on the floor in a store my stomach cramped so bad, I always thought I was going to have diarrhea but stayed so constipated. My dr switched me to cellcept and it works great and no gastro problems.
