Hey everyone, im 22 years old and have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder. I worked in pharmacies for a long time and fully understand the effects of these drugs. Yet my doctors wont prescribe them due to the addictiveness they may cause. But im getting really bad anxiety attacks, and very bad depression. Suicidal thoughts and such. I really need help and the doctors keep giving me long term anti depressents that arent working and some very simple sleeping aids that are useless. What do i do?

I am becoming really scared of hurting myself and also have completely withdrawn my self from the world. Havent gone out in about 5 months, my life feels useless and not worth it. I dont talk to friends or family.
I am so sorry no one has answered your question. I am far from being any kind of expert on your condition, but I have a grandson your age, & it scares me to think of someone so young having these horrible feelings. I just wanted to let you know if you need to talk to someone I can do that much. By me answering, it will alert quite a few friends, & someone with more experience & exepertise will come on & try to better help you. Please do not hurt yourself. It sounds to me like you need to call a suicide hotline & I don't even have a number for you! They can be of the utmost help in a situation such as yours. look in your local phone book, & Please call them. If you are feeling so low & haven't even been out of your home in 5 months, this is drastic situation. My heart goes out to you sweetheart, & I don't want anything to happen to you. Friends, please get on here & help this young person! ...
In my extensive experience with the mental health system, to get immediate help, go to any ER and tell the nurse you are suicidal. You will be sent to a psych hospital for 72 hour observation. Talk to the shrinks there. They will help you. QUICKLY. I've done it several times.
Good luck and hope you feel better soon,
While I understand wanting to take a benzo like xanax, I really recommend you begin to address the underlying issues, the reasons you are feeling this way. I have been suicidal many times in my life (I am a tad bit older than you) and can honestly say that therapy was the best resource for this. I don't know what meds you have tried nor your medical history, but they can only help to a certain extent. Through therapy you can learn your triggers and what causes you to resort to destructive behaviors. It can be a slow process but a very critical one to helping you overcome your difficulties.
Dear needhelpfast... my dear dear girl... there is so much more to life than u currently know to try to end it. We will all try to help you. Yes I agree with Imiran that if u definitely do feel suicidal at this moment DO go to the ER and do as she suggests. I do not know what antidepressant u r on but I do agree that u need to be on one as long of a term as needed to help pull yourself out of this.
I agree with Laurie that intense therapy is needed for you in conjunction with your antidepressant. The antidepressant will help you to open up. Please keep stressing to the doctor that you need something for anxiety. OR have him/her put you on an antidepressant that has a good anti anxiety property such as Effexor.
Just a little FYI here... if someone is suicidal the most critical time for them is when the antidepressant kicks in and therefore the person now has the energy to commit the act... I am just telling you to make u aware... please oh please do not act out any of your suicidal thoughts. I feel that by coming here u r reaching out and do not REALLY want to harm yourself... Please know that we will b here for u. I cannot stress enough that if u r having these strong thoughts DO what Mary has suggested and go to the ER immediately. They will help you as Mary says... please know that even though things look so miserable to u right now they will not always look this way. With the proper medication and therapy you can become a happier individual.
I will keep you in my prayers dear girl...
It's time to get yourself some proper help fast. Go to the ER and explain how you are feeling and what has happened so far. You also need to get yourself a new doctor. I had post partum depression and my doctor did not treat it. Later I had depression that were hard to treat. Don't wait and get help. Keep us posted ok?
Take care of yourself.
Suicidal thoughts mean you must see your doc, and fast. Have you told the doc you are having those thoughts? If you have they have failed you if they won't prescribe.
If you are asking for drugs of addiction then they will always refuse as the only ones that are opiates and for anxiety are only short term and therefore of little use in your condition.
Have you tried, ir asked for Effexor? That's my lifesaver and it reats both anxiety and depression. Takes some tme to work though, 6 weeks for me. Seems like an eternity right now but the relief is palpable and so welcome. The suicidal thoughts go away as it works too.
In the short term there are drugs like valium, an addictive drug as it only works short term at a given dose so people try more and more leading to that addiction.
Perhaps a change of doc may be more helpful, or if you are really desperate a hospital is your answer. ER can be rough and not that understanding unless you have a private hospital to go to so be careful as you can wait a very long time.
How you feel, much as it feels like it will never change, is temporary and somehow you must gather the strenght to get prescriptions for relevant meds and get through until they work.
You say you know drugs but when you say you fully understand the drugs you are wrong as no one actually does. There are recorded effects on all people but nothing will tell you how one drug will react with you as an individual. You must know that too if you have worked in those pharmacies.
Googling whatever drug you seek will also tell you these things.
Why don 't they prescribe the drugs you want? For the same reasons the pharmacies won't give such drugs out. addicition and litigation. They know if people are getting the same drug from various pharmacies and cotors and won't fill a script.
Listen to the docs, they know and have studied these things whereas at a pharmacy you have observed, not experienced thse drugs.
You can and will get through this if you try acceptng a specialists advice instead of your own gut feeling. I know how this feels, believe me. I often wanted relief but could not get a drug prescribed. I got through it.
If suicidal thoughts become plans then ER is the ONLY answer. Getting your doc to sign you in is best if you can do that.
