New to the group and thought the support would be a good thing. I was just given the starter packof Viibryd and I'm a little nervous after reading reviews. I have been on ADs since 1993. Most seem to work well for several years then I have to make a change. Recently diagnosed with Adult ADHD and Adderall has been a God send!! However, the depression I suffer from is almost unbearable, and actually something I keep hidden very well. I am a full functioning Correctional Officer and most people have no clue that I suffer from severe depression. I am passionate about my job but have such a fake passion for life... My meds until yesterday were Prozac 40 mg, Adderall XR 30 mg, and Xanax .5mg prn for anxiety, but it makes me hyper so when I do need it, I have to take 1 and 1/2 or 2. The prozac just wasn't cutting it anymore, and I've taken everything under the sun, so my doc wants me to try Viibryd... I guess I've rambled enough, just wanted to get in here somewhere to get some support and insight! Thanks for taking the time to read! :-)
Welcome to the group. You will find support and lots of good information. First thing I would ask is did your doctor tell you to taper off the Prozac? I'm not too familiar with Prozac but with all of the other antidepressants I've taken and then had them quit working, it is a much smoother process if you taper off one for a few days and then start the new one. Or cross taper when you take a little of both while tapering off the old one and onto the new one. I have been taking Viibryd for about six weeks now after tapering off Pexeva, which wasn't working. I'm happy with the results. I am not depressed and just feel normal. I do still have some physical side effects but they are manageable. It's always a trade-off.
I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. I, too, was able to function just fine during severe depressive episodes, but I'm not sorry to have left those days behind. Hopefully Viibryd will be the magic bullet for you. Hang in there.
Hi, I am new too. I was just recently just "tapered" off Effexor, which I had been on for about umm, wow, lets just say years. It was not pleasant, and my Doc did not tell me it would be that horrifying at all. I was on 300mg daily, so it took two weeks, but then he didn't prescribe anything right away for my depression. My other meds do not cover depression, they just stabilize mood and attitude, so to speak. I have schizophrenia with ADD. I physically hurt from the depression. It was VERY painful. Totally debilitating. Then he gave me the trial pack of Viibryd as well. I have been taking it now for 7 days, and I am starting notice a bearable difference, but I am holding out that it will improve with the higher dosage?
Welcome Free-nice to meet you. It sounds like you've managed pretty well in life considering what you've had to overcome. It will soon be a year that I was first prescribed Viibryd. I dealt with some annoying side effects and for me Viibryd has been life changing. I was also diagnosed with ADD and now take Straterra, as well as a very low dose of Clonazepam for anxiety/insomnia.
These med changes came about for me in much the same way as yours did. I have always managed life quite well, but my anti-d simply ceased to be effective after many years. There realistically may be some bumps in the road, but I hope you'll find this forum helpful on your journey. There are many bright, compassionate individuals who will lend support. I will also add you as a friend, so you can send me a personal message if you like.
You will find a lot of support on this site. I have suffered from Depression for years and finally found my cocktail. Manerix and Lithium worked for me. I have not had a depression for 6 years now. It is welcoming I have to tell you. I have my life back with my family and feel normal, last year went through Thyroid Cancer and now menopause. The fun never stops!
Welcome! You will find lots of support here. Frenchie and I are two of the biggest supporters of Viibryd. With all the love there is to her, she is the touchy-feely one, and I am the scientist.
I have been on Viibryd for almost two years now and it has been life changing (saving) for me as well. For some the startup can be difficult, but for other it is a breeze. A small group have weight gain, 3-5%, but this seems to be those who do not have long-term depression. It is an area I continue doing research in. Still, I hope you have as much luck as we have.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to the group. We try hard to support each other as we know how tough the road can be. We also know what it is like to be dysfunction free and want everyone there.
Hello Free - I am not only new to Viibryd - been on it since February - but also new to anti-depressants. The side effects started at the beginning of each new dose, but then tapered off, and now no longer bother me. Because I'm new at this I don't know how much of a help I can be, but with Frenchie, Ronman & others I think you'll find this group very supportive! Good luck to you!
Wow it was so nice to see all the great responses. So as you can tell there is support here. Depression and anxiety are tuff ones to find the right combo. I had to get off Prozac it made me have thought of hurting others... just thoughts.. also got too aggressive. Had to stop the taking Adderall due to having such bad anxiety now. It increased it 10 fold.
Have also tried many meds but due to mostly bad side effects or increased my anxiety could not take them.
Did see that Viibryd is a new AD. Hope it works for you.
You are not alone in this dual-diagnosis world. I am still searching for something that will work.
But I pray that something will work for you and you can continue to stay strong.
Wow! You guys are awesome! Thanks for the responses! I recently finished the 10 mg of the starter pack and took the 3rd of the 20 mg today... so far so good. I haven't noticed any major side effects, and it actually seems to be helping. I don't feel like crying 24/7 and I have more energy. oh wait, but I have noticed I have a harder time getting to sleep. I thought about taking it in the mornings to see if that would help, but I never eat breakfast! (I know, not a good thing!) I'll keep you guys posted!! and thanks again for listening! (well, reading!) ;-)
I am new to the group too. I joined about a week ago. My story reads a lot like yours Free. I hide my depression well. I am passionate about my career but I suffer in silence with my depression. This has been a particularly hard year, with many losses and changes. I have been on Viibrayd, working up to 40mg now for about 4 weeks after tapering off Cymbalta. My doctor also added Wellbutrin and Topamax. I take Vyvanse for ADHD. I went from taking one AD to three!! I seem to be hungry and go into some sobbing spells at the drop of a hat and at unexpected times (but I am grieving). I am not given up on this regimen of medications yet. If I am still having these issues, my doctor will re-evaluate next week. Starting three new medications at once makes it hard to know which ones may be helping and which ones may be causing side effects. I am glad I found this group.

I've been given a script for Efudex, I'm wondering why there is a support group for it! That sounds?
