... successful. I don't expect to be free of my sadness completely but free of the side effects of the past 8 years. i am curious as to how i would be? would i be in bed, unable to function as a mother, or an employee or would i be ok. any advice? Of course I would taper off slowly from my usual 20mg a day. but has anyone tried it and had ok, horrible, good results?
Hello madeline13. Fair question. I was on it back in part of 2005 and most of '06. I stopped, and went through about a 3 month period without replacing it. I ended up on 30mg. I believe I went from there onto celexa. Having said that, certainly I don't see why not. I managed fairly while not being on it. Mind you, my depression is refractory and most every drug thats been tryed has proven to be of little or no help. But, I'd say, certainly, give it a go. Check to make sure you have a back up plan, and that your doctor knows, is in on what and how you're doing etc. Wishing you the very best,
I have 1 friend put on Prozax at age 8. He is 18 and free. We used a slow taper and natural remedies. His life also changed from age 8 to 18.
Anothern friend was on Welbutrin, and couldn't get of without taking time off work,
So it seems the SLOW tapers work best... in our two friends...
I think it just depends on the person. I know some people who have done ok not being on the medicine, but I have tried three times to get off lexapro slowly, and everytime I end up relapsing. I know that I will probably need to be on it for life. Also, it is the only medication that has ever worked for me. I don't think it would hurt to try, but also know that it may not work and you may need to get back on it!
Honey if you've been taking meds for many years it's apparent that you do need them. It's not our fault. Chemicals in our brains are just missing something. I too have serious anxiety attacks. I made the mistake of getting off my Prozac when I got pregnant & did it cold turkey. Trust me you don't
Want to go that route. Also took me about 6-7 dif kinds of anti-depressants before finding 1 that worked without side effects. If you feel yucky talk to your dr & try something else. Better you stay on some sort of meds then to stop & let your children see you being miserable & suffering
