... used to treat fibromyalgia,too?
Cymbalta is an anti depressant and some doctors will treat patients with fibro with it. In certain studies it show that people have less pain with it. But the more I talk with they do not. My best advice is if you are new to fibro is to read and research and look at all your options. I am glad I did. I take natural supplements to help mine and I feel the best ever.
Do not take cymbalta for fibro. It doesn't work for that kind of pain or for most nerve pain.
I was on it for 5 weeks and then it took me 4 1/2 weeks to get off of it. I am still suffering with the withdrawal syndrome.
The gov't recently released a new study that has called into question the manufacturers research. Low doses do help a little but if the dose is increased it usually results in return of pain and worsening pain.
Please research this drug before taking it. Try cymbalta withdrawal to get the full story.
Fibromyalgia is difficult to do anything about and everyone's treatment is different. I've had fibro most of my life, and I am always skeptical of new things with it. I think anything is worth a try tho. Part of me wants to think that things like lyrica and cymbalta are being used so docs don't have to give us pain meds. But then I think well pain meds don't really help fibro that much. Its a crap shoot, you have to try things and see if they help you. I need an antidepressant anyway, so I take effexor. I don't know that it does anything for my pain tho
Yes Cymbalta is approved for Fibromyalgia & as Kaisma said earlier you will haver to try different medications to find the right one that helps you.
I have Fibro & diabetic neuropathy & several other conditions.
I take Cymbalta & Lyrica & Neurontin.
But Cymbalta is a good drug too start with in my opinion. But listen to your Dr. & try there suggestions & hopefully you will find the correct med for you.
Good luck. Kathy
Hi Terry04. You betcha Cymbalta is used for depression. Check out Cymbalta on drugs.com. They have tons of info on it. I took it for depression and Wow, it worked great for me. I think it was the best med I've ever taken for depression. My docs are discussing whether I should take it again.
Good question, Terry. Thanks for asking it because I learned more about this med. I like that.
Take care and may peace be with you,
They tried Cymbalta on me too and i dont have depression. But it didnt help much so i quit taking it after a month. I figure theirs no point to take another drug when its not helping. But for some it seems to help. You just have to try the different meds till one helps. I take Tramadol 50mg 2 pills twice daily. Takes the pain edge off and makes me feel better over all including mentally. It also gives me energy.
Yes, Cymbalta is for fibro. Its suppose to treat fibro, depression, and anxiety. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Trust me deal with pain enough, lose your life, and livelihood you will have depressing days. I've been off and on Cymbalta for a long time. I don't think it really helps. I've been on a high dose (90 mg) and coming off it now. Thank God my Dr is knowledgeable. She told me to do 60 every other and 90 every other day for 3 weeks. Then take the 60 for 1 month daily. Then alternate the 30 and 60 for 3 weeks and then every 3rd day do this for 3 weeks. Then just take the 30. For a month. Then do the same pattern to get of all together. Yes it will feel like forever but I shouldn't have the issues. Good luck with the treatment of fibro.
