Ok I worked in a Family Planning clinic for many years. Our women were told if the injection is given somewhere between Day 1 and Day 5 of your period, you are protected as soon as you get the injection. If it is later than Day 5, the women should either wait a week to have sex or use back up protection until 7 days has gone by since the shot. So in your case, you WERE protected. No worries!
