They gave my mother depikote and ativan at a nursing home for a panic attack..She is 91 yrs OLD
I took depakote, reasearched it etc. And have also worked in nursing homes since age 18 (8 years). I take it for bipolar and I only know of it being used for manic episodes in bipolar disorder. It is a strong medicine, especially for an elderly patient. Is your mothers anxiety SO debilitating that she cannot think, function or speak to anyone? Because for geriatric patient, doctors should know better than to give a brain chemical altering drug as strong as Depakote to them. How many mg is she currently taking? And did they try short term drugs first, like Valium, Xanax etc.?
