Allot of money. Brand name is the first one of the pills to be introduced by a manufacturer. They hold patents for years, and no other drug company can make it. When other companies can make it, it can't be marketed under the brand name. They are the same medications. The inactive ingredients in generics can be different and this can cause some absorption problems, but the drug has to be the same.
