... was your treatment
Typically doctors prescribe Warfarin, subcutaneous unfractionated heparin (UFH), or Low Molecular Weight Heparin (LMWH) for a period of three months after you are diagnosis with the DVT. If you have an issue with heparin then they will use Arixtra in lieu of LMWH. There is a small possibility that your doctor may use Pradaxa or Xarelto so that you do not have to do regular testing while taking Warfarin, but I would shy away from these drugs as they are new. Pradaxa is especially troubling as there is no way to reverse it effects if you have a major bleeding event. I would make sure that the DVT has resolved itself before you come off of whatever drug your doctor prescribes. If you want another opinion, I would see a hematologist.
