Imitrex 20 mg at onset of headache has been effective, but after 3-4 hrs. I get it again!!! Can only take two sprays daily!!! What to do??? Especially without pain Meds! Wondering about a suggestion for pain Meds for clusters??? Help!!!
Ask your Dr for some alternatives, typically on other med is prescribed along with an OTC product, as you already know, these nasty headaches seem to grow immune to whatever we try to do about them, so having several options to rotate is the best way to go.
I am deliberately not naming specific pain meds as I strongly advise you not to either. Regardless of the validity of the pathology the climate is so delicate these days the best approach is to report your dilemma to the Dr and allow him/her to make the suggestions. The worst thing is to start naming things friends or worse, the Internet suggested.
Hang in there and feel free o report back and let me know what comes of it.
Have you asked your doctor about the new medication Sumavel? Their website has an RX co-pay help program as well. If you have had this kind of head pain for more than 3 days, you may need to go to an ER near you, at least to break the pain cycle...
Have you discussed with your doctor the possibility of injecting yourself at home with Imitrex / Toradol when the cluster headaches get this bad?
I have chronic migraine and alternate Migranal (DHE) nasal spray and Relpax.
