first 2 cards have 4 rows of pills; the 3rd card has 5 rows. In order to NOT have a period, does she take only the first 3 rows of pills on each card? Does she take all 4 rows of pills? If so, does that mean she will get her period during Week 5 of Card 3?
I've been in Seasonique for over 8 years, since before it became generic.
The point of the last week is to provide a low dose of birth control, enough to cause a period (I.e withdrawal bleeding), but you don't just drop off the hormone cliff so to say. Some birth control offers sugar pills at the end (just so you don't forget to take the pill), but with no hormones some women have major side effects. Seasonique has 0.01 mg of hormones during the last week. This should minimize the hormonal flucuations that some women experience.
You take every pill in the 3 month blister pack and should have a period the last week, the week the pill color changes. So you have 4 periods a year. Once you've been on it a while, my OBGYN says you may not have a period at all during the last week. I've gone almost 18 months without a period, a few days of sporting here and there, but no period. My OBGYN days that my uterine lining is just so thin, there's nothing to shed.
So in summary, have your daughter take every pill and be prepared for a period week 13 of each quarter. The weeks are numbered on the left hand side of the pill rows. The 3rd blister pack has 5 weeks in order for the period the last week. Your daughter should have 4 periods a year.
I hope this helps, if not, please ask. I love this pill a recommend it to everyone. It's important to take this pill at the same time everyday, I have 3 alarms set. I'm convinced that my routine is what is allowing me to not have a period for so long. My OBGYN assures me it's perfectfully safe to not have a monthly period, in fact when women used to have 10 + kids, they were always either pregnant or breastfeeding, so didn't have near the number of periods we have now. This info I got from my doctor and several medical reports I've read about extended cycle birth control methods.
I hope this pill works out for your daughter. Just remember take every pill, everyday, at the same token. At the end of the quarter your entire pack should have no pills left.
Hope this helps.
