I have been on Cymbalta for a little over a year and I don't see any difference if I forget to take it for 2 days in a row. However, I never went 3 days without it. My doctor told me to just stop taking it, no details no warning. Is there a proper way to wean yourself off this?
I wish I knew how docs are missing that you just can't stop these meds abruptly. You didn't say the dose you are on. Call him and tell him you need a script for the 20 mg capsules, so you can cut down gradually. When you're down to 20mg a day take one every other day for while, then stop it. Tell that person who calls himself a dr that under serious adverse reactions for cymbalta is listed withdrawal if abrupt d/c.
Hello. This might help as well. It is from the detail professional report on the DC website. Put the name in the medication checker above these responses.
Symptoms associated with discontinuation of Cymbalta and other SSRIs and SNRIs have been reported. A gradual reduction in the dose rather than abrupt cessation is recommended whenever possible [see Warnings and Precautions (5.7)].
Where can I get more information?
Your pharmacist can provide more information about Cymbalta."
So tell the goofy doc that you want instructions. If not, I really suggest to report him and check with another doctor. Don't just stop unless youhave been given another SSRI to take in its place. I was wondering if he might have been sarcastic as you were not complying with the med. a call back is in order to be clear.
Also, you may well get your depression symptoms back. Be aware of feeling a lot of effects as you are quitting if your depression/pain/condition remains. Hope instead it goes well for you. Karen
Are you serious? These medications are extremely hard to come off of. It's like being addicted, although the doctors will not call it that. You have all kinds of weird side affects from tingly feet, to anxiety that's over the top! I'm on cymbalta now, and if I miss one dose (I take two a day), I feel it. It took me a year and a month to come off of paxil and go on cymbalta!
It really depends on the dose that you were on whether you can just stop or not. A 20mg dose once a day can be done cold turkey but you may have some side effects. Anything higher than that should not be stopped cold turkey due to the fact that 20% or more of people will have serious side effects.
Search online cymbaltawithdrawal for more help. There are a number of support sites that can help you get off this med safely and have very helpful suggestions on supplements to ease the side effects.
