I've been battling depression for a long time. After about 20 years into the battle, I was prescribed Effexor. It worked fairly well, but wore off each day about mid afternoon. Then XR came out, and it worked a lot better. I began to have major depression symptoms again after about 2 years on XR and my Dr changed me to Pristique. Worked OK for about 7 months and the bottom dropped out again. My Dr switched me to Cymbalta 60 caps and it was almost a whole new world. Problem is, I don't have insurance and cannot afford the Cymbalta any more. Is there a chance of finding Effexor Duloxetine as a generic that is efficacious???
No these two drugs are not the same.
Effexor XR is an extended-release capsule that contains venlafaxine hydrochloride.
Cymbalta contains duloxetine hydrochloride and comes in a delayed release capsule with a short half life of 12 hours and is not yet available as a generic drug.
