Recently I have been feeling more anxiety, anxiousness, irritability more than likely due to menopause as I am 53 . Also, noticing panic attacks are coming back. My Dr. is having me d/c Cymbalta as of tomorrow and start Paxil 20mg po qd. How is this change to help me?
Sadly Cymbalta can do that, it will work for awhile and then it can cause the same problems you originally took it for.
I don't know how the Paxil will work, but I am surprised that your doctor is switching you so quickly from Cymbalta to another SSRI.
Just a friendly word of warning, if you find that your anxiety gets worse or you have more panic attacks then call your doctor immediately or go to emergency as you may need something to help you transition from one drug to the other. Many with anixiety issues need Ativan injections or something similar when not taking cymbalta anymore due to the shorter half life -only 12 hours.
Good luck and I hope the Paxil works well for you.
Hi, Sydney! There is a syndrome associated with antidepressants known as *poop-out* (highly technical term ~ LOL). After extended use they can stop working as effectively and symptoms may begin to recur. Your doctor is probably thinking that changing to a new med will give you results similar to when you first started taking Cymbalta, or at least better than where you are now.
Best wishes, WCV
Paxil takes a long time to begin working. If it work for you. Sometimes though unfortunate we can grow a tolerance for meds & they also can just stop working. Menopause doesn't usually cause pani attacks. I have been a Guinea pig to the medications process. Still trying to get the correct combo. switching the two meds will hopefully put you back into a centered place. The dr. Has to see if the switch will help with anxiety depression & panic. Paxil nor cymbalta worked for me. Paxil literally did nothing to help and i was informed it takes about 6 weeks to start working. In am unsure if any of this helps. Paxil basically treats anxiety for some. Buspar is a good anxiety med that is not addictive
