I have a neurological condition, Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome and Peroneal neuropathy. Netheirless to say the amount of pain I go through every day. I take multiple meds every day but heard of Flexeryl and would like to know if this could be recommended for my condition.
My neurologist gave me cyclobenzaprine (generic Flexeril) for muscle spasms. Sometimes when my RSD nerve pain (like ice cold burning) stays localized one inflamed place for too long, it seems to send a signal to the muscles in the area to go into spasm. The spasms could last long after the nerve pain subsided. I have an inflamed tailbone, and when the muscles went into spasm it could sometimes last for days, which meant laying down for days. Flexeril works great for the spasms, but not the nerve pain. Sorry.
Good Luck and God Bless
Flexeril is great for muscle pain or help with bodily relaxation; however, something specifically for nerve pain may be more appropriate, or even a combination of both.
Various medicine types used for neuropathy pain include: topical lidocaine, capsaicin, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, antiepileptics, opioids, and μ-receptor agonists --- really there are a lot of options and your doctor should be able to guide you toward the right type to try first.
