No it cannot be cut. You would get the full dose at once that way, instead of it being time release. If you need a smaller dose, you need to get it ordered.
I believe she is correct in her answer to you to get a smaller dose if you don't need the full effect. With that being said the answer to your question should I cut it in half the best answer is no; however I have with little or no incidence. I am also very opiate tolerant and you may not be. The question can they be cut in half is yes, they can. Now revert back to the first question which is no they shouldn't. .
Never, ever alter a time release or long acting pill. It can be fatal to do so. Cutting them defeats the time release mechanism and they can release too much medicine all at once. If you need a smaller dose, ask your Dr to order a smaller dose or go with immediate release medication.
