I use Coumadin and I love to cook, garden and hike. All of those activities have some risk of cuts and scratches. With the Coumadin, the bleeding can be severe and very difficult to stop.
You must see your doctor at once if you have a cut that bleeds out of control while taking anticoagulants.
Prevention is best .
I have found Quikclot gauze which is an incredible product that stops the bleeding. It is a type of gauze that is impregnated with a substance the causes the blood to clot, even when Coumadin is trying to stop that from happening. I have used it several times and have only good things to say about it. Also, if you are having any bleeding issues, you must get your INR checked as the effects of the blood thinner seem to change over time.
