I have been to the er many many times for short of breath. after 5 years on the same meds does your body get use to them. do dr usually try other options. when I check most say for treating asthma. which I do not have. Iknow COPD gets worse as time goes on. my dr always says I am fine and keeps me on the same meds. my first dr moved out of state thats why I now have Another dr.
Have you asked the dr if there was something else you should try? The goal is to open up the airways, much like asthma, so it makes sense to use those meds. There is that new one out called Breo. It is specific for COPD. I don't know anything about it, its brand new. Have you had your pneumonia vaccine?
Hello dakmaknk. Add my thought. I have COPD and my lung capacity is to the extreme (low) My trio is Symbicort-160-4.5 (2 puffs in the am--- 2 puffs in the pm) Spiriva in the am and my rescue inhaler is Combivent (3 inhalations per day and no more) I have the option for oxygen bottle/fanny pack etc. The best suggestion is to keep yourself as physically active as possible. Keep the lungs at work. It is difficult but as you yourself are aware, COPD can not heal itself, remains much the same or as is the norm, progressively worsens. I take 2 x-rays per year, and am on my 2nd and last pneumonia shot. My first was for 5 years, the second for the rest, balance of my life. Regards pledge
