I’ve been bloated and severely constipated for the past 2 weeks+, and nothing I’ve tried can help. I went to the ER and the doctor prescribed me some powder laxative and it hasn’t helped. The only time I can have a complete bowl movement is when I take multiple laxatives. I’ve tried stool softeners, an enema, and taking a fiber supplement. I’ve also had narrow stool and fat in my stool. Any idea what’s wrong? Maybe a blockage?
I believe if the ER doctor was worried about a blockage then they would have at least ordered an x-ray of your abdomen & pelvis.
Sometimes stress, inactivity and poor diet choices can lead to severe constipation.
If you continue to suffer make an appointment with your GP doc. Your doctor may choose to prescribe a more regimented laxative such as Senokot.
Whatever you do don't give up until you get a true diagnosis. Unless you're living off of carbs something must be causing the bloating and discomfort.
Lastly, any chance you've taking a new prescription? Some prescriptions esp pain meds are notorious for causing constipation.
Hi Greenman, Bestpup gave a great answer and just add to it, make sure you are drinking enough water to hydrate your body and also that you add greens to your diet, especially if you have been eating alot of meat, cheese, ( cut down on these and add salads) etc. Also, try to always have Oatmeal for breakfast, all of these things help to regulate various systems in your body along with your digestive system. You need the balance so the food can process correctly. (exersize if you don't already, a simple nightly, or at least a couple of times a week, walk can help) Plus add a Probiotic, or add foods like pineapple, and other similar fruits to help your digestion. There are products for cleansing your colon system at the health food stores, some of which can be taken as a tea, but make sure to go to a health food store that has knowledgeable customer assistance, like Sprouts, Wild Oats, etc.. These have worked for me.
I am in chronic pain from 4 different causes so I take various medications to help, including pain medications, and I don't get as much activity as I should. By including these few things I have be able to have a regular bowl movement and maintain my weight at 120 which is perfect for my body, and which helps alleviate alittle of the pain in knees, legs, feet, etc. If you have anxiety, and have ever felt so stressed that you feel a knot in your stomach, ask your doctor to give you something to relax, but only as needed. Once you alleviate the constipation, that will also relieve the anxiety and stress. Plus if you are(or even if not) you are a Christian, pray, drawing close to HIM eases my constant anxiety and depression. Hope this helps, GOD bless you.
Opiates are notorious for causing this problem. Eliminate pain meds if possible (tapered appropriately and medically of course). Next thought is diet. Greens, add them to your meals. Stop fast food. Add a kelp supplement (take as directed on bottle), add a magnesium tablet supplement @ 400mgs 2xs daily (by Kal), add a Magnesium powder (by Natural Vitality) take as directed on outer container, and get some exercise by walking at least a mile per day. Do this regime for two weeks. Keep a log of your BM's, foods that you ingest and keep a mileage log as well. Check back in and post your progress.
