It sounds like you may have atrial fibrillation. It can feel very strange and scary. It does need to be taken care of. usually medications can be used to keep the heart beating regularly. You should consult with your/a cardiologist right away! If you cant see your cardiologist soon, go to the ER and they can give you medications to regulate you. It could be something other than a-fib but that is a common cause for irregular heart beats (often rapid) You may also feel dizzy, sweaty and short of breath.
Dzoobaby has given you good, solid and comprehensive advice. Given your medical history get yourself to an ER asap. In do not live in the US so I don't understand the insurance issue, but you need to seek medical help.
